In the early days of Bountiful, the Union Furniture Company crafted coffins to sell along with other fine furniture. The company was owned and operated by the Holbrook brothers, Del and Merrill. During the Great Depression the Holbrook brothers expanded their efforts from just coffin construction and entered into the Mortuary business. They carefully supervised the construction of the building which was later named the Bountiful Union Mortuary. Its 18" inch walls with lathed-plaster interior, along with its Southwest architecture, is well loved and appreciated by the locals.

In 1950 the Holbrooks added a comfortable chapel that accommodated more than 200 people. Other additions were added in 1970 just prior to the death of Merrill Holbrook. In the summer of 1972 the Holbrook family invited the Russon Brothers to consider the purchase of the family business. The Russon Brothers enthusiastically seized the opportunity and the purchase was finalized in the fall of that year. Tours of the building are always welcome.
