Afton Dickman

March 19, 1917 — February 12, 2012

Afton Anderson Dickman born on March 19, 1917, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2012, in Orem, Utah. Afton was the oldest of two children born to Oscar Waldemar and Hazel Ferguson Anderson in Provo, Utah. She married Roland Frank Dickman on August 16, 1941, in Preston, Idaho. She worked at various places during her life but spent most of her career with the Ogden City School District and the Salt Lake City School District from which she retired. After her retirement she and Roland enjoyed traveling together through Russia and several other European countries. They typically started the day at the crack of dawn with a good round of golf. Afton always had a positive, happy outlook on life. She loved bowling and her most prized possession was her trophy for bowling a 200 game. She would meet challenges head on and do what had to be done with determination and optimism. No matter what obstacles she faced, she would always count off all the things for which she had to be thankful. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and friend who spent many hours in service to others.

Afton was preceded in death by her husband Roland Frank Dickman and sister Evelyn Anderson Foote. She leaves behind one son, Roland Gregory Dickman of San Rafael, California and one daughter, Diane Dickman Mabey (Thomas) of Orem Utah. She had one grandchild (Olivia), as well as five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren whom she claimed as her own through Diane’s marriage.

A family graveside service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012, at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
