Alan Moss Collier

April 30, 1953 — July 19, 2017

Alan Moss Collier, 64, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away July 19, 2017, surrounded by his family, after enduring a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.  We will remember Alan for his generosity, his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and his ever-present sense of humor. His "dad jokes" will live on as constant reminders to those who knew and loved him. We are comforted to know that he is now reunited with his long-missed dad, along with our Heavenly Father.  Thank you to Graciela Flores and Aspire Hospice for their tender care for Alan in his final months and days.

Born April 30, 1953, Alan grew up as a fun-loving man, and was known among his friends for pulling off extravagant practical jokes.  He had much success in business, and he treasured his relationships with his associates and partners.  His golf hobby, however, was the real money-maker– he often proudly brought home a few dollars that he had won on the course that day.  Alan was dedicated in his philanthropic efforts, liberally donating to and serving various charities, generously tipping at every opportunity, and gladly sharing with anyone around him. He served faithfully as an LDS missionary to the Mexico North Central Mission and in many leadership roles in the LDS Church, including as a high councilor, Young Men's president, and bishop.  His proudest achievement was the five children he raised together with his wife of 33 years, his eternal companion, Mindy Jo Dance.

He is survived by his wife, Mindy; five children and their spouses, Heather L. Valerga (Brody) of Alpine, Melissa J. Holmes (Jonny) of Woods Cross, Ashley M. Sonntag (Nikolaus) of Foster City, Calif., James A. Collier (Audree) of North Salt Lake, and Michael P. Collier of Bountiful; and six (and a half) grandchildren.

Also surviving are his beloved mother, Myrne Moss Collier of Bountiful; brothers, James Collier of Spring Lake, Mich., and John Collier of Bountiful; sisters, Sheri Adams of Brigham City, Laura Belnap (Eric) of Bountiful, and Lisa Anderson (Kelly) of Smithfield.  He is preceded in death by his father, James Alan Collier.

Friends and loved ones are invited to remember and celebrate Alan's life at a funeral on Tuesday, July 25 at 11 a.m. at the Mueller Park Stake Center, 1800 East Mueller Park Rd., Bountiful.  Viewings will be held on Monday, July 24 from 5-7 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Bountiful, and Tuesday morning 9:30-10:45 am at the church prior to services.

Interment will be in the Bountiful Memorial Park.  Memorial donations may be made to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
