Alan Taylor Low

May 17, 1942 — January 27, 2016

Alan Taylor Low was joyfully reunited with his eternal companion on January 27, 2016.  Born May 17, 1942 in Logan, Utah to Archie Taylor and Oreta Morrell Low.  Alan was blessed with an older sister, Lorie Ann.  They grew up in Layton, Utah where Alan climbed trees, explored the fields and enjoyed the life of a growing boy.  He attended Davis High School graduating in 1960.  There he met the girl of his dreams, Carolyn Barlow.  He stopped at nothing to get her attention!  Alan lived in the Layton 1st Ward most of his life before serving   in the Eastern Atlantic States LDS Mission (July 1961- July 1963) with headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.  Upon returning, he married Carolyn Barlow in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 12, 1964.  Alan attended the University of Utah graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in economics.  Alan is a dyed-in-the-wool “Utes” fan. He could be seen sporting his red tie after many athletic events.

Alan and Carolyn moved to Woods Cross, Utah in April 1968.  There they raised two daughters, Lisa Michelle and Lezlee Ann.   For 47 years Woods Cross was home and here he served his family, church and community. He worked as the City Recorder for over 40 years; put his accounting skills to good use  working  for the LDS Church in the Welfare Services and Farm Management Division for 20 years, retiring in August 2000;   working as an accountant for South Davis Fire District for over 20 years and then later as a Financial Officer for the South Davis Metro Fire Agency.

Alan loved the game of golf spending many happy hours on the green.  His six holes–in-one were noted in the local newspaper.   He loved the guys he golfed with and made many wonderful friendships at Davis County Golf Course.  Later during his retirement years, he enjoyed playing with the senior group at Lakeside Golf Course where many more happy memories were made.

Alan found joy in service; as Bishop of his LDS ward and as a  leader in his community.  His compassionate heart touched the lives of many.  The words of his favorite hymn,   “ Lord, I Would Follow Thee” guided his life:  “I would be my brothers keeper; I would learn the healers art.  To the wounded and the weary I would show a gentle heart.  I would be my brothers keeper-Lord, I would follow thee.”  (Hymn #220 LDS Hymnbook, Text by Susan Evans McCloud)

Alan is preceded in death by his parents Archie Taylor and Oreta Morrell Low of Layton, Utah and by a baby sister, Patricia, who died at birth.  He is survived by his older sister Lorie Ann Walker (Richard) of Bountiful, Utah; daughters  Lisa Michelle Low Rigby (David) of Boise, Idaho and  Lezlee Ann Low Hatch (Brian) of Mapleton, Utah;  grandchildren:  Brandon David Rigby, Rachel Lynne Rigby, Michael Eldon Rigby, Trevor Brian Hatch, Logan Taylor Hatch, Connor Michael Hatch;  his brothers-in-law: Steven Eldon Barlow (Lana) of Bountiful, Utah and Wayne Kenneth Barlow (Madeline) of Providence, Utah along with numerous nieces and nephews who were all special to him.

We are grateful for the loving care our father received from hospice and home health care professionals.  Rochell and Tiersa especially made the end of his life comfortable and peaceful.

“Our dear Father and Poppa, thank you for the fun vacations and wonderful memories.  We hope there’s a lot of ice cream in heaven.”  With love, your family.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, from 6-8 p.m.  An additional viewing will be held at the Woods Cross 1st Ward LDS building, 2064 South 800 West, Woods Cross from  9:30- 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral at 11 a.m.
