Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Albert Holbrook Brown, passed away peacefully at his home in the early evening of December 13, 2024, after valiantly enduring Parkinson’s Disease for many years. He was 81 years old. In his final hours, he was surrounded by his wife and children, which was a tender mercy of the Lord.
Albert was born in Salt Lake City on February 11, 1943, to loving parents, Francis Ray Brown and Ruth Holbrook. Albert had a very happy childhood and dearly loved his brothers and sisters. When Albert was four years old his family moved to Alhambra, California. During his youth, Albert loved riding bikes, building tree houses, and adventuring outdoors. He had many fond memories of summers spent at his Uncle Albert’s cattle ranch in Arizona.
At the age of 17, Albert attended Brigham Young University where he met the beautiful, blue-eyed Sandy Stratford. He simply adored her and she was smitten by him. In 1962, Albert served a two-year mission in the Southern States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Following his mission, on August 28, 1965, Albert married his beloved Sandy in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and all eternity. This beautiful marriage led to nine children, 36 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. In August of this year, Albert and Sandy celebrated 59 years together.
Dad’s greatest joy was his family. He loved to spend time with them and he taught by example. Some of his greatest memories include hiking the Tetons, family reunions at Bear Lake, the Ranch in southern Utah, and enjoying the outdoors with his family. He worked hard and found joy in whatever he was doing.
Dad’s love for life was epic! He filled it with adventure, fun, and humor. He was playful and spontaneous, good-natured and accepting, resilient and strong. He cheerfully navigated the highs and lows of life with Sandy by his side. He rarely complained, was remarkably sunny, was relentlessly supportive of his kids and grandkids, and treated everyone like they were the only person in the room.
Dad earned a Master’s Degree in Accounting at BYU and worked as a CPA and Entrepreneur all his life to support his large family. He was an avid reader, a brilliant speller, and a walking encyclopedia. He thought and studied deeply and had an active, inquisitive mind.
Dad was valiant in his testimony. He lived the Gospel of Jesus Christ, extended charity to all, and especially treasured his time serving in the Bountiful Temple. He and Sandy raised their children in the scriptures and he knew God’s words well. He served in many capacities, including as Bishop (1975-1980), temple worker, Sunday school presidency, scout master, youth leader, and home teacher.
We, his loved ones, rejoice in Dad’s arrival in heaven. We know that our patriarch has been taken home to his Heavenly Parents, and is reunited with his son, Spencer, and other beloved family members.
Albert is survived by his wife, Sandra Stratford; his children and their spouses: Jennifer (Mark) Chamberlain, Matthew (Colleen) Brown, Jeremy Brown, Russell (Lara) Brown, Alsina Elizabeth (Mathew) Fielding, Bradley (Jamie) Brown, Emily (Shane) Rowley, Joshua (Alyssa) Brown; his brothers Keith and Wayne Brown; and his sister, Annette Eliason. He is preceded in death by his son, Spencer Holbrook Brown; his grandchildren, Tyler Brown and Paige Brown; his parents; his sister, Nora; and his brother, Floyd.
