Albert Ira Moore Parkes

April 12, 1923 — June 26, 2016

(Known in the Amateur Radio Fraternity as "K7ERR)
Ira was born on the 12th April 1923 in Sedgley,Staffordshire, England, son of Annie Moore and Jesson Walter Percival Parkes of Kinver, England. He passed away peacefully at his home in Bountiful, surrounded by his loving family.
During  World War II , he served in the British Home Guard (a civilian guard formed to protect against enemy invasion) until he was old enough to volunteer in the Royal Air Force Bomber Command, serving  in bases in West Africa and Mildenhall A.F. Bases from 1941 to December 1946
He  married Audrey Mary Collingwood on the lst June 1946 in Trysull, England. They recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt  Lake Temple.
After leaving the R.A.F. Ira and Audrey emigrated to Australia and lived there in Brisbane, Queensland for four years. Then in 1952 along with their two small children, they left Australia for Salt Lake City.  Ira worked a short time for General Electric and Western Airlines before joining the Utah Air National Guard  in 1954 as a full time technician, retiring in 1982 after twenty seven years of military service.
Ira is a High Priest in the Bountiful 58th Ward and has served in many auxiliaries and callings in the church. He was called to work as a volunteer in the church Welfare system for many years.  Most of all he cherished his calling as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple where he served for over fifteen years.
He is survived by his sweetheart Audrey, his children Melvin (Mary Lee) Parkes, Ruth Parkes Hirschi (Richard),  Michael (Connie) Parkes, Judith Parkes  Poorte (Lee), and Ilene Parkes Brown (Flint). Twenty-two dear grandchildren and forty-one equally dear great-grandchildren.  He loved each one.  Preceded in death by his parents, son Robert Ira, sister Elizabeth (Betty) and her husband, Stanley Gill.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Bountiful 58th Ward, 200 North 200 West, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Friday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
