Albert John Swensen

John was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on June 26, 1939 a few minutes before his identical twin brother, Don. They are the sons of Jennie Romney and Albert Donald Swensen. He grew up in Provo, Utah and graduated from BY High School in 1957. He served in the Army Reserve and completed an LDS mission to New Zealand South.
John was an artist. He recognized, admired and created beauty. He has created many beautiful art pieces from paintings to sculptures and pottery that beautify the homes of those he loved. He completed a Master’s Degree in Fine Art at BYU in 1971 and began his teaching career in Mesa, Arizona. In 1976, he applied for a position with the Department of Defense and taught art in Germany for 25 years. During that time, John was able to travel throughout Europe and Asia. He loved learning of different languages, peoples and cultures. He retired in 2001 and returned to Utah to be closer to friends and family. He lived in Lehi for almost 20 years.
John was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including nine years on the High Council of the Stuttgart, Germany Stake. He also worked for over 5 years as a veil worker in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.
John was the ultimate “people person”. He made friends all over the world and delighted everyone with his wonderful sense of humor. Though John never married, he considered his siblings, in-laws and 26 nieces and nephews one of life’s greatest joys. He went to great lengths to include them in his life, providing may enriching experiences and fond memories for them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Don and younger brother Philip Swensen. Two sisters, Marilyn (Ted) Hess and Kathy (Paul) Graf also precede him in death. He is survived by his sister, Margaret (Dennis) Lifferth, and many nieces and nephews.
John passed away on August 6, 2021 at Creekside Senior Living Center in Bountiful, Utah. The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at that remarkable facility for their dedicated service to John over the last three years.
A memorial service will be held at the Centerville North Stake Center, 1461 North Main Street, Centerville, Utah on Saturday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m., where a viewing will be held at the same location prior to the funeral from 10:00 -10:45 a.m.
