Alfred John Leininger Jr. was born in Castle Dale, Utah on December 3, 1939 to Alfred John Leininger and Beth Jensen. He died peacefully at home on January 16, 2017 surrounded by his family. After 4 years in the Air Force, Alfred was discharged as a Senior Airman, and later served a mission in the Eastern Atlantic States. He went to Bountiful High School, and in 1973 graduated from Weber State University with a BS in Manufacturing Engineering.
Alfred led an adventuresome youth prior to settling down as a loving and supportive father who always did his best for his family and who loved dogs fervidly. He was a jovial, friendly, and an exceptionally handy man who suffered from an occasional moody spell and a penchant for moderate but harmless collecting later fueled by the development of online auctions. This legacy, including flings of 1980s racing bicycles, 1980s 2.2L Turbo Chryslers, Australian cattle dogs, 1970s lawn tractors, Victorinox pocket knives, 1990s Chevrolet Impalas, H.O. train products, and Thomas the Train sets, has provided his wife LouAnn with a long-term steady income from eBay merchandising.
Alfred is survived by his wife Lou Ann Parkin Leininger, his three sons Michael (Amy), Matthew (Tricia), and Aaron (Lara), 8 grandchildren, his dog Sadie, and his two brothers Richard of San Jose, CA and Kris of Coalville, UT.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Russon Brothers Funeral Home at 295 N. Main, Bountiful, UT 84010. A viewing will be held from 9:30am to 10:30am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a Memorial Donation to Alfred Leininger at www.bestfriends.org.
