Alfred Leon Newren, 84 died, January 24, 2004, at his home in Bountiful, Utah.
Born 18 February 1919, in Provo, Utah, to Leon and Clothield Newren second of eight children. Graduated Provo High School in 1937receiving Mangum scholarship to BYU for one year for being the best male scholar in the graduating class of 225, received B.S. in chemistry from BYU in 1942, and M.S. in meteorology from NYU in 1950.
Married Elizabeth Pendleton 7 April 1942 in Salt Lake Temple.
A career officer in US Air Force, he served in India, Texas, Louisiana, Washington D.C., New York NYU, Alaska, California, Germany, and New York retiring in 1968 as a Lt.Col. After military retirement, he worked in meteorlogical research, teaching, and restaurant supply. He was a member of Swanee Singers just over 20 years. Active in the LDS Church, serving as US servicemen area coordinator – Germany, ward clerk 12 years, rehabilitation specialist missionary, name extraction program 13 years, faithful high priest, ward choir member and home teacher.
Survived by wife, Elizabeth Beth, Bountiful; children: Quaila Atwater, Vallejo, California; Kirk Leon Marcia, Corales, N.M.; Terry Ann DW DeWitt, Bremerton, Washington; Edward Paul Diane, Bountiful, Utah; 16 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 5 brothers and sisters. Funeral services, Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Val Verda Stake House, 2600 South 500 West, Bountiful, Utah. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary 295 North Main and Wednesday at the church 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
