Alice "Ellaine" Standish Humphrey

March 13, 1937 — April 25, 2015

Alice “Ellaine” (Standish) Humphrey passed away at her home 25 April 2015 after 58 plus years battling Multiple Sclerosis.

Born 13 March 1937 to Alice Josephine (Lathrop) Standish and Myles Joseph Standish of Olathe, Colorado, she married David Lynn Humphrey 4 June 1959 in the Naval Academy Chapel, Annapolis, Maryland.  Upon Dave’s retirement from the United States Air Force in 1979, Ellaine returned to the workforce, retiring from the US Department of Agriculture in 2008.  She loved being able to spend time in her yard gardening and watching the various types of birds that frequently visited the feeders she put out.  She fought the debilitating effects of Multiple Sclerosis by finding innovative ways to remain mobile until 2011 when her legs finally failed her.  Even when life allowed her to enjoy her yard only via windows from her chair or bed, she still took joy in suggesting new seasonal plantings for the yard by scouring the garden catalogues endlessly.  The word quit was never in her vocabulary nor makeup and she always had a smile regardless of her circumstance.

Ellaine is survived by her husband David and daughter Stephanie of Bountiful, Utah, brother Myles Lathrop Standish of Olathe, Colorado, cousin Ruth Ann Greer of Roseville, California, sister-in-law Bette Jo (Humphrey) Felix of Montrose, Colorado, step-brother-in-law Leonard D. Felix Jr. of Olathe, Colorado, niece Alice June (Standish) Muhr of Whitewater, Colorado, nephews Myles William “Skip” Standish, Myles Greggory Standish, Leslie Deven Felix, David Seth Felix all of Olathe, Colorado, Gary Lee Felix of Gilbert, Arizona, and their respective spouses and children.

Dave and Stephanie would like to gratefully acknowledge the loving care and attention devoted to Ellaine by the entire staff of Community Nursing Services Homecare and Hospice especially Jocelyn and Karen our RNs, and April, Brooke, and Nicole our CNAs (along with many others who treated her from time to time), as well as Right at Home of Ogden especially our homecare assistant Heather, and the multitude of neighbors and friends who supported us in every way imaginable.  You are true “angels”.

Ellaine relished life, as such… we shall hold a “Celebration of Life” from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, 30 April 2015 at Russon Brothers of Bountiful, 295 North Main Street.  Please come share your memories and stories with us.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ellaine’s memory to your local MS Society, MS Walk, or a charity dear to your family in some way.
