Alice Criddle passed away peacefully on the morning of January 6, 2007. She was born on November 30, 1917 at Manila, Utah to James A. Peterson and Alice Maria Warby Peterson. She spent her childhood in Bountiful and Bingham, graduating from Bingham High School in 1935 with honors. Depression times precluded her using a scholarship to BYU that she won for excellence in shorthand and typing, and she married instead and moved with her husband, Laddie J. Martin to Culver City, California.
During the California years, she gave birth to her two sons and worked to help with family finances. The family moved back to Utah in 1947, first to Murray and then to Bountiful, where she lived until last year.
Alice was always active in the LDS Church in various callings, and following a divorce in 1955, later married Ross Criddle in 1970, which marriage was solemnized in the LDS Temple. She and Ross served two missions for the Church, in North Carolina and later at the visitors’ center at the Los Angeles Temple.
She was an avid genealogist and made temple work available for many ancestors. She and Ross worked for several years as temple ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple.
Mother loved and served many people, not the least of which are her children and grandchildren, helping support them on missions. She wrote original poetry and often included it with gifts to her children and grandchildren. An energetic woman, she loved working in her garden, solving puzzles, sewing, reading, writing, and serving in the Church.
She is preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, and is survived by a sister, Irma Argyle, two sons, E. Ray Martin Joan and Donald F. Martin Christine, eight grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Val Verda 2nd Ward Chapel, 3317 S. 800 W., Bountiful. Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 10-10:45 at the church prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Bountiful City Cemetery. The family extends appreciation to the care providers at the Beehive Home Car Center in North Salt Lake. You are wonderful.
