Alva Allen Young, Jr.

May 26, 1929 — September 25, 2017

Alva, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home on September 25, 2017.  He was born May 26,1929 in Abraham, Utah, to Alva Allen Young and Emily Margret Petersen and was the oldest of 3 brothers and 1 sister.  He lived out his childhood working on the family farm raising hay, corn, as well as other crops.  His father also owned a ranch near Toole, UT the family would “drive” cattle between the ranch and the farm.

He married Lorraine Thornton (North Logan, UT) in 1957 (60 years) in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Later, they were blessed with 4 children, 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Alva served his country as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War.  He served for almost 3 years before being honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of Staff Sergeant, a non-commissioned  officer.

Alva graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1969 at the age of 40.  After graduating, he had a successful career designing special effects generators for television cameras and “military grade” low-light level video cameras which could “see in the dark” as well as many other things before the days of digital (computer) electronics.

Alva is a faithful member of the LDS Church and is a disciple of Christ.  In the church, he served honorably in numerous callings – including serving a full-time mission with his wife in the Russia Rostov-na-Donu Mission.

Alva is survived by his wife, Lorraine, and his 4 children: Laurie (Michael) Romriell, Elva (Stuart) Maughan, Steven (Jeni [deceased], Gina) Young,  Leroy (Kim) Young, and 15 Grand Children, and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Val Verda Stake Center,  2651 South 500 West, Bountiful, UT.  Viewings will be Sunday October 1, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Russon Mortuary,  295 N. Main St. Bountiful, UT, and Monday October 2, 2017 from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM at the Val Verda Stake Center prior to the service.
