It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alvan James Strasrypka. Al was born June 20, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah to his parents, Mary Adelaide (Meldrum) and Adolf Albert Strasrypka. He grew up in Bountiful and was in one of the first graduating classes of Viewmont High. Al graduated from Utah State University with a fish biology degree and worked for several years running a fish hatchery in Logan, Utah. From there he moved back into his childhood home and started working with technology. He worked at both Eaton Kenway and Granite Furniture for many years.
Al married Karen Beckstrom on May 15, 1976. Together they had two sons, Todd James, and Scott Brandon. They were later divorced. He met his eternal companion, Donna Wagner, while working at Granite Furniture. They were married on August 23, 2001, in San Diego, California and sealed for time and all eternity on May 3, 2023, in the Bountiful Utah Temple.
Al loved being outdoors especially if it involved hunting, fishing, or spending time with his dogs. Dogs were his life. He spent many weekends training his dogs for hunting and having them compete in AKC hunt tests. Earning many ribbons throughout the years. He also loved judging hunt tests and traveled to many of the western states to do so. He was a member of both Wasatch Hunting Retriever Club and Weber River Retriever Club.
Al also loved baseball and spent many years running the scoreboard for the Salt Lake Stingers and then the Bees. He enjoyed being involved in Little League baseball in Bountiful in his younger years. Many vacations were spent traveling to see major league baseball games. His goal was to hit every ballpark.
He was a great friend to everyone he met and was loved by his neighbors. He would spoil the neighborhood kids by taking them boating each summer. He always had a smile on his face and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be missed by those who knew him, or ever had the chance to hear his laugh.
Love You Mostest!
-Donna
