Our precious Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and best friend passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2019.
Alvina was born January 12, 1934 in the Dutch community of Celeryville, Ohio to Paul R. and Jeane W. Bendig. She dearly loved and stayed close to her only surviving sister, Hertha, throughout their lives. She has now finally met her sister, Annetta.
Alvina loved music which began at an early age. In her youth she was invited to Interlochen National Music Camp. She became an accomplished cellist and performed with the Cleveland Women’s Orchestra.
Her higher education studies took her to study theology at Schauffler College of Religious Study, which became Oberlin College where she earned her Associates Degree.
Soon Mom met and married John. They raised three daughters. As life progressed they chose to pursue different paths, but chose to remain close friends. Alvina then married Philip. They shared many things, such as the desire to move West, which they eventually did. This brought them some of the happiest years of their life; focused on family and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
She enjoyed many church callings and volunteering opportunities. Her greatest joy was her family. She was loved dearly as the “Candy Grandma”.
Our greatest memory will lay in her humble, loving way that she saw and accepted everyone for who they were and made them feel accepted and loved for being who they were. Her legacy of love will last forever through her loving influence among her expanding family.
Alvina is survived by her children: Susan and Michael Call, Sharon Anderson, Sandra and Bruce Ashby; grandchildren: Krista and Brandon Lay, Michael and Dana Tanner, Missy Anderson, Sarah Tanner, Jason Tanner, Bryce Tanner, Stacey Call, David Call, Shauna and Brady Adair; great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Tanner, Hazen, Crosby, Maximus; brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Patricia David; nephews: Richards Williams, Ron and Wendy Kolozvari and Arnie and Ginny Kolozvari. Alvina was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters.
