Amy Mitchell

June 4, 1923 — May 9, 2019

Our sweet Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and friend passed from this world to the next surrounded by her family on Thursday May 9, 2019 at the age of 95.

Amy was born June 4, 1923 in Panguitch, Utah. The tenth of twelve children to Robert W. Norton and Tyresha O. Myers Norton.  She grew up in Panguitch working the land with her family. At the age of four, she lost her mother and was raised by her step-mother Annie. With Annie came six more brothers and sisters.  Amy often talked about her large family and how much she loved each of her siblings.  She was particularly close to her two sisters Jean & Louise and her brother Howard.

Amy married Norm Mitchell on December 17, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Their earthly marriage lasted more than 73 years. They were blessed with six children. Norm and Amy lived in the same house, which he built, in the Poplar Grove area of Salt Lake for 68 years.  They raised their family along side her sister Jean Patrick and her family. Their life was full of many wonderful adventures.

Amy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for her whole life. She enjoyed many callings, but her favorite was the time she spent with the “young ladies” as a MIA Advisor.  She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies. She always had a batch ready for anyone needing a treat.  Amy adored her family and her happiest times were spent at family parties where her house was full of those she loved most.

Amy is survived by her loving family: Lee (Sue) Mitchell, Centerville, UT; Luann (Steve) Walkenhorst, Farmington, UT; Ilene (Brent) Christison, Centerville, UT; Kim (Karleen) Mitchell, West Jordan, UT; 16 Grandchildren, 31 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.  Amy is now reunited with her husband Norm, her parents, nine siblings, daughters Judy and Letha Mitchell, and her granddaughter Rachel Christison, all of whom have gone on before her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Centerville Porter Lane Chapel, 436 West Porter Lane, Centerville, Utah.  Viewings will be from 6:00pm-8:00pm, Thursday May 16, 2019 at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah, and from 9:30-10:30am at the church prior to the service. Interment and graveside service will be held at 1:30pm at the Francis Cemetery, Francis, Utah.
