Andrew Haijkens Elzinga, our cherished father, grandfather and friend, passed into Eternity on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Born September 12, 1916 in Salt Lake City, UT, to Ewe and Pietertje Haijkens Elzinga.

Andy served honorably in the US Navy in World War II as a second class petty officer. Married his sweetheart, Mary E. Allen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 1, 1945. Worked as a sales representative in office supply, always offering pen or pencil and a cheery “Keep Smiling!” His interest included gardening, fishing, camping and woodwork. He was an excellent checker player, loved to play – refused to lose.

Served as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Central States Mission, 1941 – 1943; was faithful in his Church assignments; teacher, Bishopric Counselor, Bishop Rose Park 5th Ward, and Stake High Counselor.

Survived by 4 sons; Robert (Jenny), Jerry (April), James, and Scott, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, Mary, daughter Judith Ann, and siblings Jack, Anna, and Lyda.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012, 11am at the Valley View LDS Chapel, 2000 East 3900 South. Friends may call on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Salt Lake Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, and prior to services at the ward from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
