Anita Butikofer

August 28, 1926 — June 3, 2017

Anita Butikofer passed away on June 3, 2017. She died peacefully at home from natural causes.

Anita was born the second of eight children to Thomas Hugh and Iona Murphy in Osgood, Idaho on August 28, 1926.

Anita grew up in a large family. Her father was a farmer with the heart of a salesman. The family moved around the west in modest circumstances but she never considered herself poor. She married Charles McCartney on May 18 1947. Anita considered motherhood her greatest calling and was blessed with six children. Her children remained her greatest pride throughout her life. Charles and Anita were later divorced. Anita was then re-acquainted with Maurice Butikofer in 1973 and after a whirlwind romance were married February 22 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple. The love they shared was a shining example to the children.

Anita valued family over material goods and considered all of her extended family her greatest wealth. Her faith in the church was unwavering and she lived her testimony daily by example.

Anita is preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Iona Murphy, her husband Maurice, infant son Rodney McCartney, brothers Rondo and Theron Murphy and sister Wanda Harris.
