Ann Elisabeth Kooyman Giauque, 77, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Born June 3, 1941 to Raymond Vander Toom Kooyman and Fay Fyans Kooyman. Ann was the youngest of three children.
She loved her growing up years, especially the times she was able to spend with her cousins who were also some of her best friends. They formed bonds that lasted throughout their lifetimes. Some of her fondest memories were visiting places like the family farm and Lagoon with them.
Ann attended East High School, graduating along with many fond friends of the class of 1959.
She married Dale Arlyn Giauque on December 27, 1962. They lovingly raised two children and settled into their neighborhood in Bountiful where they lived for nearly five decades. Through those years, she worked as an administrative assistant from Provo to Farmington and a few places in between.
She found adventure in travel, from her youth, where she floated down the Colorado River before Lake Powell was created, to Holland and Switzerland later in life where she made friends with yet more cousins.
But she found her greatest purpose and joy in serving others, often sacrificing her own money, time and comfort to make sure other people had what they needed. She took loving care of her mother, and then her husband as they each dealt with debilitating illness. Throughout those times, her focus was always on their needs and comfort, and not on her own.
Her life embodied that outward focus on others. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings including as a missionary for the church's Book of Mormon program. She loved her neighbors and they loved her in return. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Her family was everything to her, from the cousins she grew up with, to her husband, to her children and especially her 12 grandchildren. Christmas Eve gatherings were legendary at her home. She made sure that everyone left knowing that he or she was loved, and knowing of her testimony of Jesus Christ, around whom she centered her life.
Preceded in death by her husband, Dale Giauque and brother, David Kooyman. She is survived by sons Scott (April) and Marc (Sherilyn) and brother Dan.
We'll miss you mom but know you had a wonderful reunion with dad, grandma, grandpa and others.
