Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Ann Marie Johnson Steed, passed away November 15, 2023.
Ann was born January 21, 1941 in Elsinore, UT to Kalon Eugene Johnson and La Vern Nielson Johnson. She was the youngest of their five children. When she was four her family moved to Richfield, Utah. Ann had fond memories of growing up there; the warm summer nights walking to the movies with her mother, sleeping on an old spring bed under the apricot tree on hot summer nights, fishing with her dad, bike riding and going to the rodeo. She loved the hometown feel and those were sweet and precious times for her.
Her family relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah when she was in the 6th grade, where she attended Rose Park Elementary, later graduating from West High School in June of 1959. On June 26, 1959 she married her High School sweetheart Rodney Steed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with five children who were also raised in the Rose Park area, in the home where she resided for almost 60 years. In the summer of 2020 she moved to West Jordan, Utah where she lived with her daughter Stacy and son in law Clint. During those three years she enjoyed doing crafts, spending time with her family and taking care of her great granddaughters.
Ann and Rod provided a lot of adventures for their young family, traveling regularly to St. George, Bear Lake, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone and San Diego, as well as frequently camping with family and friends. Eventually they were able to purchase their own condo in St. George and build their dream home, a cabin above Heber Valley, where their children enjoyed spending time together in the outdoors; snowmobiling, hiking, 4 wheeling, hunting and fishing, as well as hosting several showers, church activities, family parties and many friends. Their homes were always open to others and they generously shared everything they had with friends and family.
Ann was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a variety of positions. Her daughters have fond memories of the work she did in the Young Women’s program, which involved many activities, trips and summer campouts. She brought a lot of laughter and joy to everyone, with her sense of humor, generosity and kindness. Many of the neighborhood kids and family friends referred to her as “mom” and she frequently had yummy baked treats and sweets on hand to share with anyone who entered her home. She taught her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren how to laugh, serve and love through her example. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Mike (Patty) Steed, Layton, UT; Jeff (Val) Steed, Queen Creek, AZ; Stacy (Clint) Lewis, West Jordan, UT and Julie (Danny) Ogle, Farmington, UT. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, their 6 spouses, 5 great grandchildren, her sister Carolyn (Paul) Wardell, and her sister in law Daisy Steed, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Rodney Steed, her son Kent Steed, her parents, Kalon and LaVern Johnson, her brother Kalvin Johnson and his wife Shirley, her sister Birdie Nielson and her spouse Ken, as well as a sister who passed away shortly after birth.
The family would like to thank Intermountain Hospice and all of the staff at Whisper Cove Assisted Living Center in Kaysville, Utah for the warmth, concern and loving care they provided to her the last few months of her life.
