Anna Cleo Anderson

Cleo Anderson, age 86, of Woods Cross, Utah, peacefully slipped away to meet her eternal sweetheart in Heaven, on April 8, 2016. Mom suffered from Alzheimer’s for over 20 years. We are grateful she is free from this horrible disease.

Cleo was born in Pleasant View, Utah on April 21, 1929 to Milford and Sarah Kunz. Growing up on the family’s farm in North Ogden gave Mom a great love for animals and taught her to be the hard worker she was throughout her life. She graduated from Weber High in 1947. In 1948, she married Don Carlos Shurtz. The majority of their years together were spent in Price, Utah, where they had six children. They later divorced. Cleo married LaMoyne Anderson in 1970 and they were sealed in the Manti Temple in 1972. After their marriage, they moved to Woods Cross, Utah, where they spent 45 wonderful years, side by side. They spent many springs at Bountiful Livestock Sheep Ranch raising the “baby bummer” lambs. Mom loved her little lambs and they loved her too. Together they raised many baby animals on their little farm. One of Mom’s most fun adventures was spending a summer with Dad as he drove a fuel truck for Hosking’s Helicopters to refuel to helicopters that were being used to fight a forest fire.

Mom was an exceptional seamstress. You could hear her machine running late into the nights as she sewed for her family and many others. She was also a beautiful quilter. She donated hundreds of quilts to shelters and hospitals. Mom went about quietly serving others, doing it because of love, not fanfare.

Cleo was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many positions. She loved being a Relief Society President and doing Family History with LaMoyne. Together they prepared hundreds of names for their temple work. They cherished the times they took grandchildren to the temple to do baptisms. Mom took particular joy in working with the youth of the Woods Cross 2nd Ward putting on their Youth Rodeos. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, serving for many years. Cleo spent countless hours with LaMoyne in service with the Bountiful Jeep Posse, as well as the Utah and National Search and Rescue.

Cleo’s greatest joy was being a Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Over the years, we shared much love, laughter and fun in the pool, on snowmobiles, camping, hunting and just spending time together. Christmas was Mom’s favorite and she has left us with lots of traditions.

Mom was preceded in death by her Eternal Sweetheart, LaMoyne, her parents, her beloved Mother-in-law Henrietta Shurtz, her brothers: Verle, Roy and Seth, her sisters: Leora and Velene, and a cherished grandson Justin Shurtz. She is survived by her six children and their spouses: Don Carlos Shurtz, Keith Shurtz, Sheryl (Jon) Hunt, Susie (Rick) Earnshaw, CleAnn (Mark) Wilmot, Scott (Janet) Anderson, the loves of her life, her 16 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren, two brothers: Junior Kunz and Arnold Kunz, several nieces and nephews, and her three step-children: Kerry Anderson, Becky Anderson and CaraLee (Mike) Brandt.

As a family, we would like to thank the nurses at Heritage Place Memory Care for the care they gave Mom and a very special thank you to her hospice nurses, Tiersa and Whitney.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 14 at 11:00 AM in the Woods Cross North Stake Center, 1509 West 1500 South, Woods Cross. A viewing will be held Wednesday, April 13 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful and Tuesday morning prior to the funeral from 9:45-10:45 AM at the Stake Center. Interment will be at the Wellsville Cemetery.
