Surrounded by loved ones, Anna Thacker Durrant, 95, passed away at her home in Kaysville, Utah, April 12, 2024. Her passing marked the end of a generation and the beginnings of long-awaited reunions in heaven.
She was born in Midway, Utah, on January 19,1929, to George Angus and Chloe Stanley Thacker, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Wayne, and two sisters, Glenna and Doris.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Turner Durrant and her son, Val Durrant, and two great grandchildren, Paige Taylor and Bethany Grace Decaria.
She is survived by her son, Don (Peggy), daughters Susan Hamblin and Joyce Decaria (Frank), and seventeen grandchildren. She was also blessed with 42 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren with two more on the way.
A tomboy, Anna was always active and won awards for being one of the fastest runners in her school. She was on the Wasatch High School basketball team and twirled the baton with the school marching band. Anna and Paul had many wonderful friends from their years at Wasatch High School. They formed a group called “The Gang” that they socialized with the rest of their lives.
She married her high school sweetheart, Paul, on June 18, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple.
After marriage, she and Paul, and the children as they came along, lived in Halestone, Heber, Charleston, Hoytsville, West Jordan, finally happily settling in Kaysville.
When her children were young, she was a stay-at-home mom. Later, she worked for the Davis County Sheriff's Office (deputized to help with the women in the jail), and then as a secretary at Associated Piping in Clearfield.
A valiant lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she had many church callings. Over the years, she was a Sunday School, Relief Society and Primary teacher and a Cub Scout Den Leader. She wrote and produced many award-winning roadshows. She served as a MIA president and counselor in the Relief Society. She was the Regional Sports Supervisor for the Kaysville region, which included 5 different stakes, and a hostess at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City. She said her favorite calling was as an ordinance worker at the Bountiful temple where she served for eleven years.
Anna loved to travel with her family and friends, as well as spend time with her children and grandchildren on numerous extended family reunion trips. Anna blessed many lives with her friendship and compassionate service.
The family would like to thank A-Plus Hospice for their kind help during her last days. They would also like to thank Susan Hamblin and Cory Decaria for their extensive, much appreciated in-home help with Anna over her last few years.
