Arba Day Duncan

d. December 30, 2009

Arba Day Duncan, 89, tiptoed out of this life in Payson, Arizona on Wednesday, December 30th 2009, to join her eternal companion, John. Arba was born in Moab, Utah on November 15, 1920 to Harry Hazelton Day and Minnie Maud Johnson; the 7th of 11 children. She grew up in Utah and Colorado and graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem, Utah. Arba and John were married in 1940 and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1942. They were blessed with 6 children, 29 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. Their extended family now numbers well over 100. John preceded her death in 1999, with their youngest daughter, Laurel Bruce Olson following in 2001. Arba is survived by her daughters Jeril Ann Michael Brown, Lana Mikel Goodwin, Shari Vern Green, and Katherine Dennis Erekson; her son John Gregory Duncan; 3 sisters, Joye John Bryan, Ethel Graeber, and Winnie Foote; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Arba was very active in the LDS church, serving as a teacher and in leadership positions in the Primary, MIA, Sunday School, Scouting, and Relief Society. She enjoyed singing with various ward choirs and playing saxophone with the Val Verda 2nd Ward band. Arba and John served together as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples. They also served an 18 month mission in North Carolina. Arba was a masterful homemaker, cook, gardener, seamstress, and quilter. Each Christmas, she baked 72 pecan pies as gifts for John?s customers, friends, and neighbors. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 8th at 11 am at the Oak Hills chapel, 455 S. 1200 E. in Bountiful. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, as well as Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 am at the church prior to services. Interment-Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Arba has requested donations to the Primary Children?s Hospital.
