Arlene Calvin Noorda

August 12, 1934 — March 5, 2024

Fruit Heights, Utah

Delores Arlene Calvin Noorda passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024.  She was born August 12, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the oldest of six children. As a youth, she enjoyed spending summers with Aunt Ila and Uncle Bill in Jackson Hole, helping feed the ranch hands.

Arlene married her sweetheart, Neil K. Noorda on June 7, 1952, in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple.  They lived in Coronado and Los Angeles, CA while Neil served in the Navy and attended school.  Arlene learned how to drive on the busy California highways. She was so proud of getting that driver’s license. Their first two daughters, Cynthia and Kathleen, were born in California. Cynthia only survived a few hours.  They returned to Utah in 1959 and made their home in Granger, where Kimberlee and Christine were born. Their family moved to Fruit Heights, Utah in 1968.

Arlene was such a good neighbor and care giver.  She was involved in her neighborhood and family activities. She maintained strong relationships with relatives and many choice friends throughout her life.

Arlene enjoyed working at Harry’s Thriftway in Kaysville and Johnson Controls as their purchasing agent for 10 years. She also enjoyed working in their yard. She read many books from the library – checking out 20 at a time was no surprise.

She loved gardening and being in the sunshine. She enjoyed their beautiful yard and neighborhood. In later years, she learned to golf and even got a hole in one. She liked making raspberry jam, salsa, baking and sewing. She loved to travel. Some of her travels took her to Hawaii, Beijing China and Mexico. One of her favorite trips was with her three girls – a cruise to Hawaii in 2005. She even tried parasailing in Mexico, even though she wasn’t a great swimmer. If there was an adventure planned, she was ready to go!

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a happy, positive and gracious woman, who will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. She was a beloved wife, Mom and Grandma. We will miss her but are comforted to know we will see her again.

Preceded in death by her eternal companion, Neil K. Noorda, and daughter Cynthia. Also, her parents William “Bill” and Bernice Calvin, as well as two brothers, Robert and Ronald Calvin.

She is survived by their three daughters: Kathleen Knowlden, Kimberlee Barnes, and Christine (Kyle) Anderson. Siblings: Colleen Calvin Garrard, Gary Calvin and Pamela Calvin Merrill, as well as 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 11:00 am at the Kaysville Cemetery – 500 East Crestwood Road, Kaysville Utah.

A family luncheon will be served afterwards at the LDS Church 77 South Orchard Drive - Fruit Heights, Utah
