Arlene Badger Smedley 89, of Bountiful, Utah passed away June 5, 2009 after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Arlene was born July 16, 1919 in Standrod, Idaho to James William and Lillian Jones Manfull Badger. She attended schools in Bountiful, graduating from Davis High School. Arlene worked for Hill Air Force Base during World War II, then for Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Company for 29 years. Arlene married Harold Streeper Smedley May 5, 1950. They made their home together in Bountiful for 49 years. They always maintained a beautiful yard and enjoyed taking many trips together. After retirement, they purchased a condominium in St. George and enjoyed many activities in Southern Utah. Arlene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had a strong testimony of the gospel and it strengthened her through many difficult times. Arlene was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife and aunt. Her home was always open to visitors and she was a regular at family gatherings. Arlene possessed a unique ability to be thoughtful of others. She was the kindest, most generous person you could ever know. You always knew she cared deeply and she let you know it. She never missed a birthday or holiday. She found her greatest joy in friendships and time spent with loved ones. Though she didnt have children of her own, she loved many children and enriched their lives in countless ways. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, infant sister Ella Manfull, sister Mayme Manfull Boyd, sister Della Manfull Rose and brother Albert Manfull. She is survived by her brother Karl W. Badger of Holladay, Utah and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped Aunt Arlene in her later years, most notably Marilyn Rose and Marla Mason, who served selflessly and made it possible for Arlene to remain in her home for a long period of time. Thank you also to the staff of Avalon Care Center. Funeral services will be held June 15, 2009 at 11:00 at the Bountiful 2nd Ward 650 So. 200 East. Friends may call at the ward one hour prior to the service. Interment Bountiful City Cemetary. Funeral Directors, Russon Brothers. Be at peace, Dear Aunt, Sister and Friend
