Arthur Lifferth

Biography

Arthur Ernest Lifferth, 91 of Bountiful, Utah passed away peacefully on May 23, 2014 in his home.

Arthur was born to Gretchen Rabus and Ernest E. Lifferth on Oct 25, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He spent his childhood and youth in Salt Lake attending South High School. He married Afton Maxwell in the Salt Lake Temple Oct. 26, 1942. That same month, Arthur was drafted into the army and spent the first year serving in Utah, California and Indiana. Their son, Dennis Ray Lifferth was born in Oct. 1943. Shortly after, Arthur was sent to England where his unit participated in all seven major invasions of World War II.

After returning from the war, he established a home plan business. It was during this time that Afton died in childbirth in July, 1947. He was blessed to meet Okla Robinson and they were married September 30, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Arthur achieved certification as an appraiser and worked as Vice President for First Federal Savings and Loan. He developed the first computer based appraisal program in Utah.

He served in many difference callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but his first love was scouting. He was a gifted Explorer leader and in 1951, he received the Silver Beaver award for his service. He was active in the community and served for many years in Junior Chamber of Commerce and became an International Director for the Sertoma club.

He had a gift for creativity and was a man of many interests. He loved and restored old cars. He designed and built a motor home. He made fiber glass kayaks with his Explorers. He designed and built a model train village complete with circus, ski resort and nativity. In his later years, he spent many hours creating small wooden cars that were distributed by Humanitarian Services to children throughout the world. He made over 2700 model cars that continue to bless children.

Arthur was a man of great faith, integrity and testimony. His word was his bond. He enjoyed being with others and had a great sense of humor. He was an exemplary father and husband. He and Okla served three missions and served as ordinance workers in the Bountiful temple. He loved his family above everything else. Family members include children, Dennis Ray Lifferth (Margaret), Rick R. Lifferth (Kathy), William E. Lifferth( Diane), Rozanne (Doug Williams) and Karla, (Calvin Edwards). He has 27 grandchildren and 75 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives, Afton (1947), Okla (2007); and grandson, Casey Williams (2002).

Arthur was especially grateful for members of the Woodland Hills Ward, neighbors and hospice staff who provided exceptional care and comfort. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, at 11:00 at the Woodland Hills Chapel located at 750 East 625 South, Bountiful. Viewing Thursday evening from 6-8 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 375 N. Main in Bountiful. Viewing also from 9:30-10:45 at the chapel prior to the funeral. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
