Ashley Simmons passed away due to medical complications on November 28th, 2012. Ashley’s life was punctuated by far too much fear, heartache, isolation, rejection, and pain. Yet, despite these trials and tribulations that were her near constant companions, Ashley never lost her indomitable optimism, acceptance of others, or her love for life or her fellow man. Ashley was given many nicknames, but the most enduring and endearing was from her daddy. He called her Mootser. He loved his baby girl, and would have given her the world if only he could have. Of course, no one can truly hand the world to their children, but in many ways her Mom and Dad shaped Ashley to see the world as she would have it be. Ashley’s wonderful, bright, bubbly personality and unconditional love of others was instilled in her by parents who in turn loved her unconditionally and taught her to love and accept others, to never quit fighting, and to know that this life is only temporary, and that no matter how hard things got, we would all soon “go home,” to our Heavenly Father.
Ashley’s central legacy is her son, Jayden, whom she selflessly gave up to another
because Ashley knew that was what was best for him. That Jayden would be given every opportunity and every advantage in life became Ashley’s most important priority, and when she realized she just couldn’t provide those things for him, she exhibited unconditional, Christlike love at a level unimaginable to most, and finally after hanging onto him for 20 months, said goodbye to her sweet baby boy. She endured unfathomable heartache to do this, but she knew it was what was best for him, so she made that sacrifice.
That sacrifice is much like her passing is now. In her death, it is brought home to those who knew Ashley how very loved she was, and how many lives she influenced for the better. Whether from her positive and upbeat attitude, her unconditional love of others, her forgiving nature, and her ability to brush off the bad and continue to have fun and live life to the fullest, Ashley taught each and every person she knew a lesson in life they might not have otherwise known.
Ashley is survived by her devoted and loving parents, Nathan and Deborah Simmons, her siblings Matthew Simmons, Sarah Simmons Fitzsimons, Aaron Simmons, and Marissa Simmons, and by many nieces and nephews who loved and adored her. She is also survived by grandfathers DeWayne “Jake” Simmons and Teddy LeRoy Olsen, and by grandmother Hazel Olsen. Ashley was taken from us too early, but she made her mark on our hearts
we love her, and we will miss her until we see her again in the hereafter. Ashley, because we knew you, we have been changed
for good.
