Austin Rice Jr

Biography

Our husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on January 9, 2015. He was born on December 24, 1940 to Austin Rice and Annie Lucina Steward. Austin was one of 11 children. He graduated from Davis High in 1959. On September 4, 1963 he married OraBelle Shumway. Together they had 6 children. She passed away on May 12, 2002.
Austin earned a Bachelor and Masters degree from Weber State. He taught Jr. High at Centerville Jr. and Kaysville Jr. for 32 years where he touched thousands of students lives.
Austin was an avid BYU fan and he could be heard giving coaching advice to the TV screen while watching a football or basketball game.
Austin married Cathy Hancock Berger on June 29, 2004 in the Bountiful Temple.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife OraBelle, daughter Sherry and 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, children Royd (Lisa), Jason (Merrijane), Paul (Marie), Brent (Chrishelle), Shelly, stepchildren Erin, Mitch (Carli), Cami, 18 grandchildren and 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Gailey Park Ward, 351 S. 50 W. Kaysville, Utah. Viewing times will be Wednesday, January 14, 2015 6-8 PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main, Farmington, Utah or Thursday, January 15, 9:30-10:30 at the church. Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery.
