Barbara Ann Hatcher Utley, our beautiful friend and mother passed away on February 1, 2017 in Bountiful, Utah after a valiant fight with Dementia. Barbara was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 10, 1938 to Bertha and Noah Johnson. She graduated from Western Hills High School in 1956. She met and married the first love of her life, Raleigh William (Bill) Hatcher in 1962, and side by side they raised their two sons, Kevin and Kenneth Hatcher.
Barbara spent most of her adult life in Cerritos, California where she was a long term employee of the Coca Cola Foods Division. Her work ethic was impeccable and while there, she set many “line” records of which she was always extremely proud.
After Bill’s passing and her retirement, she moved to Cedar City, Utah where she met the second love of her life, Thad Utley. They married in 1994. She and Thad relocated to St. George, Utah and literally traveled the world together. They enjoyed life to the fullest right up until Thad’s passing in 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah.
Barbara was a very generous woman. She loved serving others, loved to bake pies, loved to shop and frequent thrift shops to find the perfect bargain; she also collected glass pie and candy dishes, Coca Cola collectables and Precious Moment figurines. She loved to write and scripted many poems, one dedicated to her sweet father, Noah Johnson about his service in WWI. Barbara was an animal lover through and through and always had a soft spot in her heart for animals, especially cats and elderly dogs. She was a master pie maker known for her pecan pies and had an insatiable love for sweets, Red Vine Licorice and Rice Krispie Treats, and of course her beverage of choice, Coke Cola. Barbara loved watching the old westerns on TV and the I Love Lucy show. She had a fun sense of humor with quick wit and enjoyed everyone from all walks of life.
Barbara was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed the many friendships she developed throughout the years. Barbara is survived by her sisters, Joan (Bill) Seurkamp and Darlene (Jim) Watson, her brother Ron (Violet) Johnson, her 6 children, Kevin (Robin) Hatcher, Kenneth Hatcher, Barbara (Richard) Luddington, Dennis (Mary Sue) Utley, Vern (Christine) Utley, Jan (Gary) Turpin, 27 grandchildren and 71 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Hatcher and Thad Utley.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Heritage Place, especially all the assistants, Dr. Holland and Julie for the kind and patient care they provided during the last phase of her life. Barbara lived a long and beautiful life. She taught us all how to live and gracefully die. She has left behind a beautiful heritage and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Until we meet again…
