Barbara W. Gillette Butler, 93, longtime resident of Davis County, completed her earthly journey and passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, November 27, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
She was born and grew up in Victor, Teton Valley, Idaho on August 23, 1931 to Francis Cloward and Ora Woolstenhulme Gillette. It was there in the Teton valley where she met her high school sweetheart, Blaine S. Butler, whom she later married. She graduated from BYU in 1953 with an BA in English and enjoyed educating (and correcting) her children and grandchildren on proper grammar her whole life.
Barbara and Blaine moved many times in their married life including stops in Idaho, Washington DC, and California, but spent most of their life in Davis County, Utah. She taught school, dabbled in real estate, supported her children in their many school activities, and served in many church callings. She owned and operated Canterbury Reception Center in Bountiful, Utah for 20 years and facilitated the many events that went on there. She loved BYU sports and was an ardent supporter to the end. Barbara loved music and dance and instilled that love in all her children. That legacy continues on with her 30 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Barbara was a devoted mother to seven children: Mitch (Rosemary), Cindy, Craig (Michelle), Lisa (Kurt) Johnson, Tony (Karolyn), Gina (Marty) Wescott, and Ariana (deceased.) Her children were her pride and joy. She said many times, "I loved being your mother." It was her greatest achievement and they felt that in the love and support she provided.
Barbara is survived by her husband Blaine and 6 of her children and their families. They will never forget the love, laughter and faith in Jesus she brought to their lives. We are sure she is loving the reunion with her parents, brother, sisters and Ariana in heaven.
