Barbara Ann Goates Packard reluctantly left her mortal body behind and traded up for a healthier, stronger pain-free existence with her Heavenly Father. She left us on Sept 26, 2012. Our amazing wife, mother and friend was born June 3, 1933 in Lehi, Utah to Francis Rayment Goates and Laureen Zimmerman Southwick. She lived for a few years in Richfield, UT then moved to Salt Lake City, UT, where she spent her elementary school years. She went to East High but moved to California for her senior year and graduated from South Gate High School in Los Angeles.
She was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple to the love of her life, Roger Packard. They lived in Glendale, CA for a few years and then moved east for Roger to attend dental school. They raised 5 children in Silver Spring, Maryland. She is survived by her loving husband, Roger, and her children, Ann OKeefe (Dan ), Lauri Barger (John), Christopher (Rebecca), Carolyn Casey Allen (J.) and Rebecca Houghton (Edward), she also had 2 foster children Ratha Chanthavong and ChanNa Sok, 23 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She earned a B.A. from BYU and taught the hearing impaired. She worked in the Washington D.C. temple and loved serving there. She did many things and she did them all well! She was an excellent seamstress, pianist, teacher, and candy maker. She was always busy creating beautiful things and taking care of people. Her home was always open to those who needed some extra love. Most importantly, she had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it permeated every aspect of her life. We are grateful for her exemplary life and influence on generations.
