Biography

Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep just hours after his 97th birthday. Ben B. Jepson was born December 4, 1916 in Mendon, Utah. He was the son of James Anthony Jepson and Loretta Prince.
Ben joined the U.S. Navy shortly after high school and was pilot for many of his 21 years of service. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the attack of December 7, 1941 and personally patched almost 200 bullet holes in the PBY to which he was assigned; one of the few which survived the attack.
Ben, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, married Myrtle Gooch in the Salt Lake Temple on August 15, 1949 and enjoyed 64 wonderful years together.
After retiring from the Navy, Dad earned his teaching degree from the University of Utah. He spent two years teaching in Boron, California. Dad was also an accomplished carpenter and spent many years building houses. He finished his working career employed by the LDS church.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers. He is survived by his wife Myrtle and their three children; Ben Jr. (Norma), Helen (Steve Parkin) and Diane (Roger Martin). Ben and Myrtle also have 12 grandchildren and 28 great-children. Ben’s quiet and calming demeanor will be greatly missed.
