B. Jay Ludwig passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born on May 26, 1936 in Price, Utah to Bernard Heffley and Evelyn Crawford Ludwig. He graduated from South High School in 1955 and served as a class or student body officer all three years. He played basketball all three years was named All State in both baseball and football. Following high school, he received a leadership and baseball scholarship to the University of Utah where he played 2nd base. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity where he built many personal relationships that lasted a lifetime. Also, while at the University, he worked as an assistant golf pro to Utah golf pro Vinnie McGuire.
He graduated from the University of Utah in June 1961 and was also a member of the 328th Military Hospital Reserve Unit where he served in the burn ward at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas.
He married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Andersen on June 9, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple by Elder Hugh B. Brown and enjoyed 58 years of marriage before her passing on March 8, 2016.
Following Jay's graduation from the University, he attended the University of Southern California where he received his graduate degree in physical therapy. After graduation from USC in 1963 they returned to Salt Lake City for his first job at Primary Children's Hospital followed by 38 years with the Bryner Clinic, and 16 years with Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy for a successful career of 57 years of treating and caring for people. Being a physical therapist meant the world to Jay and treating people was more than just a profession. He truly enjoyed caring for his patients - whether at the clinic or the many people he treated in their own home at all hours of the day or night. He was always there with a warm smile and his patient's health and recovery of utmost importance. This has been manifested in the countless number of stories the family has heard over the years from people whose lives he has touched. During his career he served as president of the Utah Chapter of Physical Therapy and has had a positive impact upon the profession as whole.
Golf was his passion and he played since he was 8 years old and recorded 3 holes in one! He was member of Oakridge Country Club from 1971 until the day he passed away. During these many years he had the opportunity to serve as president and on the board of directors. He was a founding member of the TGA which enabled him to be surrounded by some of his closest friends, and he takes with him a lifetime of treasured memories.
Jay was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a High Councilor, Stake Sunday School Presidency, Elders Quorum President, Bishopric Counselor and Branch President. He and JoAnn also had the privilege to serve for more than 8 years as missionaries at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
He is survived by his children Tammy (Steve) Kasteler, Teresa (Doug) Folsom, Keith (Vickie) Ludwig, and Robyn (Jason) Torbensen, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and his sister Beverly Mountford. He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn and parents Bernard H. and Evelyn C. Ludwig.
A viewing will be held on Sunday evening, May 19, 2024 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Russon Mortuary located at 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah, and also on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 9:45 am - 10:45 am at the Barton Creek Ward located at 640 South 750 East, Bountiful, Utah followed by a funeral at 11:00 am.
