Biography

Bernell Wardell Coons
January 14, 1923 – May 8, 2014

Bernell Wardell Coons passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Cove, Oregon, the son of Ernest A. Coons and Beatrice Wardell Coons. He was later sealed to W. Frederick Grow. He grew up in LaGrande, Oregon, where he learned to love the mountains. He spent a lot of time with Uncle Bert, who became a second father to him.
He attended BYU and joined the military shortly thereafter. He served in the Army Air Corps from Oct. 27, 1942 to May 25, 1946. He met Anne Allred in Los Angeles. They were married and sealed in the Mesa LDS Temple on April 9, 1945.
He graduated from the University of Utah, but always remained a true blue fan. He enjoyed racquetball, fishing and hunting, camping with the family, gardening, building a family cabin and genealogy. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He was a devoted husband and father, and a man of integrity and virtue.
He is survived by 5 children: Carolyn Lundgren, David Coons (Bonnie), Douglas Coons (Laurie), Marianne Moyes (Rodger), Richard Coons (Marjann), he is also survived by 21 grandchildren, and 53 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Allred Coons, and one grandson, Richard Cory Coons.
We appreciate the loving care given by Gentiva Hospice.
