1923 – 2013

Bertha Davies Haskell Tart, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother was joyously reunited with her 13 siblings, parents and spouses on June 6, 2013, in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 89. She was born September 17, 1923, in Fillmore, Utah, the daughter of John Henry Davies and Ellen Lavina Robinson. She met William Orson Haskell at the tender age of 14 and wrote each other until he returned to Utah and were married, April 1, 1944 in Salt Lake City. They were blessed with a daughter during their brief marriage as Grandpa Haskell passed away at the tender age of 28. Shortly after that she met and married Frederick Nelson Tart, September 29, 1950 in Salt Lake City. They were blessed with a son. They were happily married 43 years.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she lived her life worthy of her temple covenants. She served faithfully in many church callings her most cherished was that of a Primary Teacher and recently was recognized by Deseret Book as The World’s Greatest Primary Teacher celebrated locally by her students who still adore her and nationally by Deseret Book.

She has been an active daughter of the Belvedere Camp of the DUP for 32 years and received the Outstanding Service Award. For over 20 years she served as a docent at the Daughter of Utah Pioneer Museum.

She is survived by her children, Betty H. McGarvey (Patric) and John F. Tart (Darlene). Preceded in death by her husbands, grandson Steven Paul McGarvey, her parents and 13 siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 13th, 2013 at 11:00 am at Belvedere Ward on 607 E Downington Ave(1830 So.). Friends may call on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Russon Brothers Salt Lake Mortuary, 255 S. 200 E. and prior to the services at the ward from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Burial will follow at the Fillmore City Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.. Online guestbook available at www.russonmortuary.com.

The family expresses appreciation to all who have assisted Bertha over the past few years at Willow Wood Care Center; especially Brittney, Mira, Jose, Susan, Mike, Kendall, Eva and Natalie. Melany and Dottie from Bristol Hospice were a blessing during her final days.
