Betty DeLois Shuman Hansen
Betty DeLois Hansen, 88, our beloved Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma and Sister, passed away 6 July 2021 at the Beehive Homes of Syracuse, Utah surrounded by the love of her family.
Betty, a true “Georgia Peach”, was born 25 August 1932, in Savannah, Georgia to Hanford Blitch Shuman, Sr. and Virgie Mae Still. She was the middle child of 3 and only daughter. She attended many schools; Waters Avenue Elementary, Pooler Elementary, Oglethorpe Jr. High, John Gorrie Jr. High, and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She went on to further her education at Indiana University, Weber State College, and graduated in 1980 from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Betty was the epitome of a Southern Belle. She was beautiful, lady-like and proper. She carried herself with dignity and grace. She married her eternal sweetheart, Phyll Arnold Hansen in the Idaho Falls Temple, 19 December 1956. She is finally reunited with him after 26 long years. They had three daughters and a son.
Being the wife of an Air Force Officer and pilot, they moved to many places in the world; Jacksonville, Florida; Bloomington, Indiana, Yokoto Air Force Base, Japan; Montgomery, Alabama; Rapid City, South Dakota; Leavenworth, Kansas; Rexburg, Idaho; Provo, Utah; Salt Lake City, Utah; Syracuse, Utah which became their final home.
Betty enjoyed sewing, reading, learning, cooking, gardening, canning, shopping, watching movies, family history work, attending the temple, and ice cream night every Sunday night with her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family.
Betty was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had a deep faith and unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ that she cherished and loved to share with others. As a young adult she served a mission in the Southern States. Later in life, she and Phyll served a Church Education Mission in the West Africa Mission. Betty served another mission in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. She served in many church callings: Primary, Young Women’s, Relief Society, Stake Relief Society and served as a Family History teacher. She also served for several years as a hostess at the Church Relief Society Building.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Keri Jelayne Roberts and a grandson, Tanner David Birch.
She is survived by her children: Kevin Dane Hansen of Syracuse, Utah, Krista Lee (David) Birch of Syracuse, Utah, Shannon Maray Sandoval; 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as her brothers Hanford Blitch (Jeannine) Shuman, Jr. of Highland, Utah, and Joseph LeGrand (Karen) Shuman of St George, Utah.
Her family express heart felt appreciation for the care, kindness and love shown to Betty while living at Beehive Homes of Syracuse. They also express an abundance of love and most sincere appreciation for the final months, days, and hours assisted by Alice Bosworth and other staff members at Suncrest Hospice.
Friends may attend a viewing at Russon Mortuary 1585 West 300 South Syracuse, Utah Thursday, 15 July 2021 from 6-8 pm and Friday, 16 July 2021 from 12:30-1:30 pm. Funeral services will be Friday, 2:00 pm. 16 July 2021 at Russon Mortuary 1585 West 300 South, Syracuse, Utah. Interment will be 1:30 pm. Saturday, 17 July 2021 at the Cache Clawson Cemetery, Tetonia, Idaho.
