Betty Rae Bigelow Harward passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024, at the age of 74. Betty was born on February 26, 1949, in Ely, Nevada to William Levon Bigelow and Sylia Hunt Bigelow. She was the youngest of five sisters. Betty moved with her family from Ely to Green River, Utah when she was about 4 years old where her dad began raising famous Green River Watermelons. Betty was honored to be the Melon Days Queen while in high school.
After graduating from Green River High School, Betty moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend LDS Business College. While she was in Salt Lake, she met the love of her life Layne Bagley Harward. Layne and Betty were married July 27, 1968, in Green River, UT and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.
Together they lived in Bountiful, UT for many years where they raised their 4 children and made great friends and neighbors. They also lived in Gilbert, AZ and West Bountiful, UT before finally settling in Farmington, UT for the past few years.
Betty was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. She was employed and retired as a loan officer at Chevron West Credit Union. Betty loved her children and grandchildren, and they adored her. She enjoyed showing that love by making them tied blankets and quilts and attending their special events and activities.
Betty is survived by her loving husband Layne Bagley Harward, children Heidi Harward Baird (Bart Baird), Holly Harward Markham (David Markham), Scott Bigelow Harward (Lisa) and Gregory Layne Harward (Paulina), sister Billie Mae Olney, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters Beverly Hurley, Barbara Swanson, and Bonnie Vetere.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building on 980 N. Shepard Church Dr., Farmington, UT. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
