Betty Lue North Orgill

September 12, 1928 — February 27, 2022

Betty Lue North Orgill was born September 12, 1928, on the east side of Mt. Timpanogas in Charleston, Utah, Wasatch County. She died comfortably in her own home after years of devoted care by her daughter Gloria Barfuss. Her parents were Perry Davies North and Lula Wright. She was the youngest of 3 children, with two older brothers, Max D. North (Betty) and Barton P. North (Wilma). She had wonderful memories living on a farm, playing with her friend Mae on the ditch banks, and taking her kitten for rides in an old buggy. Mom grew up during the depression. Life was hard and her family lost their farm. Luckily, they lived by parents who helped them. Eventually, they were able to buy another farm only to have the State of Utah buy it for the Dear Creek Reservoir. Finally, her father bought property in Heber City and built a red brick home where mom lived until she was married. Betty shared a birth date with her grandfather, George B. Wright, and later with her first child Rebecca. Three generation birthday parties were fun to share with family.

While in Charleston someone gave her father a “Model A” Ford. Neither of her parents could drive so mom taught herself how to operate it. She now had wheels to get to Wasatch High School in Heber.

After WW2 ended, a handsome marine named James Boyd Orgill returned from the war and swept mom off her feet. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 18, 1946. They had three children, Rebecca Anne, James Bradley, and Gloria. They lived in Heber for a few years and then moved their little family to Bountiful, Utah where they stayed.

Mom got up with the sun every morning and was always busy. Her house was always orderly and clean. She loved her home. She was a fun, energetic person. Her goal was to have happy children and grandchildren. Friends were always welcome.

As a lover of Jesus Christ and the scriptures, she was active in serving in the organizations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in her ward and stake. She was always engaged with family history and served a full-time family history mission with her husband in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City. She also served in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples.

Mom was a seamstress. She could sew and mend anything. She made baby quilts with silky ruffles for every grandchild. The babies soon wouldn’t sleep without them. When they completely wore out, mom made big bed quilts that they had to get used to using. She was educated with office and secretarial skills.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers and their wives, one granddaughter, Danae Russon, and one grandson, J. Spencer Barfuss. She is survived by her three children: Rebecca Anne Russon (Milton), Bradley Orgill (Nancy), and Gloria Barfuss (Michael), nine grandchildren: Rachelle Fawcett (Michael), Bryce Russon (Natalie), Sharise Anderson (Tom), Tyler Russon (Anne), Benjamin Orgill (Heather), Nathan Orgill (Jessica), Hailey Cox (Kirk), Brandon Barfuss (Britshana), and ten great-grandchildren. Mom was only 4’ 8” tall, but as we’re told in 1 Nephi 16:29: “… by small things the Lord can bring about great things”. You were the greatest, Mom. We love you.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery with a viewing on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah.
