Betty Ann Yager

December 20, 1929 — March 5, 2025

On March 5, 2025, Betty Ann Yager (95), our angel on earth spread her wings to soar with her

husband of sixty years. Betty was born on December 20, 1929, in Colorado to John and Mabel

(Plumb) Goodyear and was the youngest of 3 daughters. While her family was homesteading in

New Mexico, at the height of the Great Depression her father heard of work available in

Arkansas and moved his young family there, where the girls attended elementary school. As

work became scarce, the family moved to join her grandmother in Erie, PA, where they lived

until purchasing a farm in nearby New York State. While in Erie at age 16, Betty was introduced

to the Gospel and was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

and remained a faithful member throughout her life.

During this time, a young man, Laurence Yager, returned from the Air Force to his family’s farm

at the base of the hill below Betty’s home. They met at the mailbox, started dating and were

married in 1957. They were later sealed for eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. During the time

her husband attended Cornell and then Penn State Universities, they celebrated the birth of

their two daughters. Upon graduating, Larry was hired to work for the Penn State Extension

Service in Gettysburg, PA. They adopted two boys to complete their family, and lived there for

the majority of their lives. A few years after Larry’s passing in 2017, Betty moved to Utah to live

with her daughter and son-in-law. They cared for her in their home until she died. She travelled

all over the world, visiting many countries as well as living in the Bahamas, Poland and Armenia

as her husband worked on agricultural projects in those places. She was fascinated with the

world around her, especially its people and animal and plant life. She enjoyed watching

documentaries about countries she visited and those she didn’t get the opportunity to see in

person.

Betty was very talented and enjoyed many forms of art including painting portraits, landscapes

and writing poetry and stories. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She won talent

shows and was often asked to sing and yodel. She was a member of several church and

community singing groups, even into her 80s. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She

loved plants and flowers and was usually found in her garden Spring through Fall. She was also

an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining. Her smile and laughter brightened any room and

she loved people. No one was a stranger to her for more than a few minutes. Despite the

hardships in her life, she maintained a positive attitude and lived her life to the fullest.

Betty is mourned by her children, Jetawn (Tony) Crow, Mesa, AZ; Tamara (Steven) Hubbard,

Clinton, UT; Shawn Yager, McSherrystown, PA; Michael Yager, Clarion, PA; Armenian daughter

Armine; 4 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, an adopted sister Jean, many nieces

and nephews, and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older

sisters and her husband.

The family would like to thank Symbii Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful, caring

service they provided for Mom over the last few years.
