Bountiful, UT – Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, and wife Beverly "Betty" Harward passed away at home on June 26, 2015 at the age of 91. She was born January 22, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Obray Bishop and Elsie Twitchell Jones Bishop.
Betty was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah by her parents. She was one of eight children. She graduated from West High School. She married Court Ball Lake in 1942. Court died in 1944 during his military service. Betty later married Max Ray Harward on February 19, 1954 in Salt Lake City where they lived for a short time. After a stay in Texas for military duty they moved to Bountiful, Utah where they raised three children and celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Betty loved dancing when she was young, practicing ballet and Spanish dance. She and Max excelled at ballroom dancing and were instructors for a time. She loved attending her children and grandchildren's baseball games. She worked as a secretary much of her life and retired as an executive secretary at Evans and Sutherland Computer Company. Betty was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in varied positions throughout her life. She supported her two missionary sons and raised a wonderful daughter. She was a devoted mother and wife who loved and supported her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Marvin (Ky), George "Jud" (Bernice), and William Bishop, sisters: Helen (Jack) Timpson, Maxine (Fred) Smith, Murel (Ben) Pfeiffer, and Ellene Bishop. She is survived by her husband, Max Ray Harward, her sons: Max Briant Harward, Marc Stafford Harward, daughter: Cheryl Dott (Kevin) Hedquist, grandchildren: Dana (Kate) Hedquist, Derek (Mysti) Hedquist, great-grandchildren: Henry, Rachelle, and Andrew Hedquist.
We would like to thank the ward members at Ward Canyon Ward for their support and kindness. Thanks to Adagio hospice; Shelly, Sharlene, Rosemary, Lindy, Jon and the rest for their caring attention, and to her other caretakers Desi and Marlene.
Funeral services will be held at the Ward Canyon Ward Chapel 540 N. 1200 E. Bountiful, Utah on Thursday, July 9 at 11:00 a.m. with a public viewing from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the chapel. A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary 295 North Main Street Bountiful, Utah Wednesday evening July 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Bountiful City Memorial Park Cemetery 2224 South 200 West Bountiful, Utah.
