Billy Ray Jackson

Please, dear family and friends, do not grieve for me.  I will miss you all.  I have gone to a better place, and we will be together again.  I was glad to learn there is fly fishing here, and it is all catch and release.  It is a wonderful place and there is much work to do.  Please continue to love and serve one another.

I was born in Salt Lake City on 6 July 1940 to Ray William Jackson and Mildred Smith Jackson.  My siblings are Faye Young, Marba Evans, Grant Murray, Joan Laws, Elaine Horsley, Sherrie Jackson, and Jay Jackson.  Faye, Grant, Joan, and Marba have preceded me in death.

I married Karlene Openshaw for Time and Eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on 26 May 1967.  We have some wonderful children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Our children are Drew Jackson of Kaysville, UT, Jill and Jim Hodgson of Highland, UT, Jared Jackson of Vernal, UT, and Jodi and Shane Young of Bountiful, UT.

I was a Mechanical Engineer and a registered Professional Engineer and had 45 challenging and rewarding years solving problems and trying to make the world a little better.

I received many blessings and gifts from Heavenly Father, and He allowed me to serve in a variety of capacities including: Bishop, Counselor in the Stake Presidency, missionary to Scotland, and humanitarian missionary to Vietnam with Karlene.  Scouting was a joy in my life where I served in many assignments including Scoutmaster and Zone Commissioner.  I was honored to receive the Silver Beaver award from the BSA.  

I will be looking for you at the funeral services to be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3599 S. Orchard Drive, Bountiful, Utah, on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.  Friends and family can call at the same location from 6:00–8:00 p.m. the night before the funeral services, and from 12:00–12:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment - Bountiful City Cemetery.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin 10-15 minutes before the services and will be posted below.
