Biography

Birgit Carlé©n Wallin, born on February 27, 1919, in Karstorp, Skaraborg, Sweden, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 61 2013, at her daughters home in Midway, Utah.
Birgit married her one-and-only, Halvar Wallin, on October 12, 1940. After joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, their marriage was solemnized for eternity in the Swiss Temple on June 24, 1957.
In 1960 she reluctantly left her family and homeland to fulfill Halvars dream of moving to America. After many years of hardships, she grew to love her adopted
land and her many new friends and neighbors in Salt Lake. They fulfilled their American dream by buying a home where they have lived for the last 53 years. In 1974 they built a cabin on Halvar’s family property in Sweden, after which they traveled to Sweden every year for 25 years where they spent their summers among family and old friends. It was a dream come true.
In 1982-84 she and Halvar went back to Sweden to serve an LDS mission. Birgit also served with Halvar as stake missionaries, as well as temple workers for many years. She also served in the Primary and Relief Society for many years.
Birgit loved doing genealogy work and taking her ancestors to the temple.
Birgit was a talented homemaker and a great cook. She and Halvar loved to entertain, Halvar with his music, and Birgit with her cooking and baking. She has radiated joy throughout her life with her beautiful smile and friendly ways. She loved people!
Birgit was always sensitive to the needs of her family and would never pass up an opportunity to serve her children and grandchildren. We will always remember her for her selfless service. She was a great example to all of us and we will miss her dearly.
Birgit is survived by three of her nine siblings in Sweden: Inger, Berndt and Nisse; her three daughters: Ulla (Joe) Taylor of SLC, Christina Yates of Sandy, Lisbeth (Jay) Downs of Midway; 9 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Halvar, her granddaughter Alicia, and six of her siblings, whom she loved so much and hated to live so far away from. However, she never let distance keep her from being a part of their lives.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 11, 2013, at 12:00 noon at the LDS Chapel at 2215 E. Roosevelt Ave. (1450 S.). A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m., prior to the service. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Funeral Directors, Russon Brothers. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com
