Bonnie Charlotte Bloom LeFevre

November 2, 1933 — January 14, 2017

Bonnie Charlotte Bloom LeFevre passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, after a nearly three-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Bonnie was born November 2, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of George Emanuel and Bertha Agnes Borgquist Bloom. She was a graduate of East High School and the University of Utah, where she earned a degree in nursing. After a year at a maternity hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, she returned to the mainland and worked at hospitals in Salt Lake City, Monterey, Calif. and Bountiful, Utah, and in public health in both Salt Lake and Davis counties. It was while she was nursing at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salt Lake City that she met her future husband, who was working evenings at the hospital while attending the University of Utah. She and Don LeFevre were sealed in marriage October 22, 1959 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by Elder Hugh B. Brown of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Bonnie worked as a school nurse for many years and had a positive effect on hundreds, perhaps thousands of students. Later in life she would often meet people who recognized her and told her she was their school nurse and that she was “the best.”

She was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a number of positions over the years in the Relief Society and Young Women auxiliaries. She had also been a stake missionary and served a two-year mission with her husband when he was director of the Laie Hawaii Temple Visitors Center. She and her husband also served as stake historians.

She loved to travel and toured Europe before her marriage. She and Don visited all but a couple of the states plus three Canadian provinces. Particular favorites were their many tours of New England during the October “leaf-peeping” season. She also treasured the memories of the annual family vacations to Newport Beach, Calif., while the children were growing up. If she had a hobby, it was loving and serving her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  And there was also the Recipe Collection. Bonnie was a wonderful cook, always having a meal or treat prepared for family and friends.  She loved to collect cookbooks and regularly cut out recipes from food and cooking magazines. She collected several thousand recipes over the years and, as she occasionally quipped, “I’ve even used a few of them.” Bonnie was well known for her delicious peanut brittle and English toffee, and also her beautiful cascading petunias in her window boxes.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother, Charles Bloom, and a granddaughter, Sarah Lily LeFevre. Survivors include her husband, sons David (Shellie) LeFevre, Bountiful, Utah; Jeffrey (Dean) LeFevre, North Salt Lake, Utah; Scott (Debbie) LeFevre, Bountiful, Utah; Tom (Bonnie) LeFevre, Centerville, Utah, and a daughter, Rebecca (Dan) Sims, Kaysville, Utah; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Callie, Candice (Keith), Piper (Zach), Danielle, Emily, David aka “Buddy”, Brett (Jennie), Dan (Ally), Eric, Annie, Christian, Sam, Christine (Taylor), Abby, Lottie, Sam, Jake, Landon, Annie, Gabe, Catherine, Caleigh, Ryan, Zach, Remington, Marshall, Lily, Hazel, Jackson, Ellie, and Joey. The family wishes to thank the many home health professionals who assisted Bonnie these past several months, including Marina, Jessica, Brian, Hayley, Mele, Lillian, and Carma.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 21 at 1:00pm at the Woodland Hills Ward Meeting House at 640 So.750 East, Bountiful, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening, January 20, from 6 to 8pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main St., Bountiful, and from 11:30am – 12:40pm at the Church prior to the services.
