Bonnie Lee Smellie Sparks peacefully passed away May 28, 2021, at the age of 90, in Bountiful, Utah.
She was born April 16, 1931, in Dayton, Idaho to John Ricks Smellie and Luella Hansen Smellie. She grew up in Buhl, Idaho.
Bonnie graduated from Southern Idaho College of Education in Albion, Idaho and also earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. She taught elementary school for several years at different times during her life.
Bonnie married Truman D. Sparks on June 10, 1952, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They raised their four daughters in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Utah. Their home was always open to the girls’ many friends.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in the Church throughout her life. Bonnie enjoyed gardening, camping, boating, snow skiing, and square dancing. She loved to sew and read.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Truman, her brother Rex Smallie and his wife Marjorie, and sister-in-law Doris Smellie.
She is survived by her brothers Dell and Don Smellie and sisters Jennie Montgomery and Pauline Smith, daughters LeeAnn (Brent) Cleverly, Karma Brown, Catherine Sparks, Judy (Rick) Jensen, 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and counting.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 10:00 am at Russon Mortuary, 295 Main St Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service at 9:00 am.
Interment at the Carey, Idaho Cemetery Saturday, June 5, at 12:30 pm.
