Bonnie Lynn McConkie Wright born on April 10,1943 in Colorado Springs, CO, passed away on August 12, 2021, in Bountiful, UT. Bonnie was a beloved daughter of France Briton and Beth Merrill McConkie and was the oldest of eight children who were not simply siblings but treasured lifelong friends. She married the love of her life, Stewart Alma Wright II on August 26, 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised four beloved sons who were the apple of their eyes.
Bonnie was a masterful memory maker. She knew the value of every precious moment and had a gift for taking the seemingly common and ordinary and turning it into the extraordinary.
She was a ferocious reader and gifted storyteller. She had a great love and passion for children’s literature. She could often be found sitting with a pair of reading glasses on the tip of her nose (while other pairs were hanging from her neck or forgetfully placed on the top of her head), a book in her hands, and a child on her lap. She was a fixture on Main Street in Bountiful as the owner of the cherished bookstore, All Tucked In. This was a magical place where children’s wishes were granted, mothers were doted upon, fathers were guided to the perfect token of affection, and forever friendships were made.
Her greatest treasures were her grandchildren where her gift of weaving superlatives was on full display, always declaring that every single one of them were “the most handsome, the most beautiful, the most talented, the most creative”, and our all-time favorite, “The smartest kid in the entire class.”
She had an amazing eye for beauty which was demonstrated in the lovely spirit and atmosphere of her home and the presentation of the delicious culinary creations that she took great pleasure in preparing for her family and friends. There was always room for one more at her table and she never hesitated to extend an invitation to gather.
Every day to Bonnie was a celebration. She found great joy in serving in all parts of the Lord’s vineyard and did so with full purpose of heart. She had an innate gift of recognizing the beauty in others. Often seeing them as the Savior saw them, not as they were but what through the atonement of Jesus Christ they could become.
One of Bonnie’s most valuable gifts was that of a believing heart. She was steadfast and immovable in her faith all the days of her life. She demonstrated this faith, and the love she has for her Savior Jesus Christ, by the virtue of her character and how she was constantly seeking out ways to lift the hands that hang low, strengthen the feeble knees, and gently wipe away grief-stricken tears.
She had a collection of flags from all over the world displayed in her home of where her husband, children, and grandchildren had faithfully served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This cherished display was symbolic of the foundational legacy of faith, service, and discipleship that she intentionally cultivated in the lives of those she loved.
Bonnie often mentioned that she grieved for the children of the world who didn’t grow up with Winnie the Pooh. So, to quote from this dearly loved classic, “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever.” A.A. Milne
Bonnie said “goodbye for now” to her sweetheart and eternal companion of 56 years, Stewart, her adoring sons Stephen (Sunny) Wright-Alpine, UT, James (Amy) Wright-Layton, UT, Bryan (Noelle) Wright-Salt Lake City, UT, and Aaron (Andrea) Wright-Lake Stevens, WA, 18 cherished grandchildren, and one precious great-grandchild. As well as many dear siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.
We love you, Mom! Thank you for nourishing the family soil with faith, love, and pure doctrine. You have planted our roots down deep. What a magnificent garden you have grown!
