Our wonderful father, Boyd Rohwer, passed away on June 13, 2021 at the age of 93. Boyd was born on April 9, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Winzlo Fred and Barbara Evans Rohwer. He grew up in Bountiful and attended Davis High School, where he made many lasting friendships and played basketball, tennis and boxed.
Upon graduation from DHS in 1946, Dad enlisted in the Army Air Force, serving most of his time at Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands.
Dad graduated from the University of Utah in 1952 with a degree in business. He made a great career with Ford Motor Company.
On September 4, 1953 Boyd married his sweetheart, Louise Moss, in the Salt Lake Temple. They had a wonderful life together and were the best of parents to their 5 children, who still continue to tease about each of them being Dad’s and Mom’s favorite. They constantly served all of us and taught us by example how to serve others. Louise passed away in 1998.
On September 20, 2002 Boyd married Bette Eggett. We will forever be grateful for Bette and her loving family. They were a wonderful couple and were married for 14 years until Bette passed in 2017.
Dad was a good tennis player and returned to playing it after he retired, playing with several of his ‘older’ buddies in the area until he hung up his racquet for good, at age 82. He looked forward each month to being with his “dinner group” and loved those associations.
Dad served in the church in many callings, always with his whole heart. Dad especially loved his nearly 20 years welcoming people to the Bountiful Temple as he served at the recommend desk.
He was a kind-hearted and gentle man and looked for the good in situations and people. He was never judgemental and that allowed him to love everyone unconditionally. Dad was quick witted. He was clever and continued to crack jokes and make us laugh until the very end. Sometimes we were laughing before the joke ended because it was hard for dad to keep a straight face until the punchline was fully delivered. He was a talented gardener and enjoyed spending time creating a beautiful yard. We were all frequent beneficiaries of his gardening skills and his big heart.
Boyd leaves behind his 5 children Brad (Jamie) Rohwer, Annette (Gary) Nelson, Shauna (Kyle) Dopp, Sue (Kevin) Pendlebury, Stephen (Kristin) Rohwer, 21 grandchildren and 18 ½ great-grandchildren; step-children Connie (Ted) Wooley, Terry (Colleen) Eggett, Shauna Eggett, B.J. (Dave) Erickson, 21 step-grand and 65 step-great-grandchildren.
Dad was greatly loved and will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his son Boyd Rohwer Jr, his parents Winzlo Fred and Barbara Evans Rohwer, wife Louise Moss Rohwer, sister Melba Rohwer Conway, wife Bette Eggett Rohwer, and step-son Randy Eggett.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Maple Hills chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1320 E 1975 South, Bountiful, UT., where friends and family may visit prior to the funeral at 9:00am. He will be buried at Lakeview Memorial Estates.
