Bradley G. Maurer

Bradley Gerald Maurer, 69, of Bountiful, Utah, passed away on 21 January 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Brad was born on 31 May 1951 in Long Beach, California to Alan Max Maurer and Louise Adele Thacker. From his parents he gained a lifelong love of reading, music and learning.

After graduating from West Carrollton High School, Carrollton, Ohio in 1969, he attended Brigham Young University and began studying a career in acting. While at BYU, he met the love of his life Catherine Liechty, who supported him as he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Taiwan Taipei Mission, from 1971 to 1973.

After returning, Brad continued his courtship with Cathy and they were married for Time and All Eternity, in the Provo Utah Temple on 05 October 1973. Brad continued his education and earned a Bachelors Degree in Asian Studies and Chinese Language in 1975 and a Masters Degree in Library Science in 1977.

After graduation, he accepted a position as Branch Librarian at the South Branch of the Davis County Library in Bountiful. He spent most his career managing the Library and overseeing the Library programs. His experience in storytelling brought joy to audiences of all ages. He is fondly remembered for the annual Library Halloween Story Time.

His last few years, before retirement, were spent as Branch Librarian of the new branch in Centerville, Utah. After surviving cancer he was eventually diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. This, in turn forced him into early retirement from the job he loved for 35 years.

In his retired years he volunteered his time at the library, as his health permitted. His focus also continued on excelling at being best Grandfather in the world. He always took time to spend with each grandchild, playing games and telling stories. He will be remembered as an avid player of Dungeons & Dragons, something he played with his children and grandchildren often.

Brad spent his life as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving those in his neighborhood and community as a teacher and leader that influenced many lives for the better. Those that knew him are left with the fond memory of a good friend and one who demonstrated how to live with a love of life, family and God. Brad is remembered as a kind and supportive father and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Catherine Liechty Maurer, his Six Children, Christine Call (Matt), Suzanne Haney (Russ), Gerald Alan Maurer, Eric Lafe Maurer (Melissa), Nathan Bradley Maurer and Ivan Max Maurer (Alexis) and by 15 grandchildren, two being married. He is also survived by his two sisters Linda Maurer, Corrine Phillips and brother Chris Maurer. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Brian Maurer.

A public viewing will be held Thursday, 28 January 2021 from 6-8 pm at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful, Utah.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required for both viewings and the funeral, also please respect physical distancing of 6 feet.

Interment will take place at Bountiful City Cemetery.
