Brandon McKay Murdock, 42, returned home to his loving Heavenly Father, earthly parents and big brother on Monday, January 14, 2019, after a courageous fight with congestive heart failure.
Brandon was bigger than life, in every way imaginable. He made life-long friends everywhere he went, from Utah to Michigan to Arizona to Colorado to Florida and Maryland. He absolutely loved being a daddy. Maverick and Rockwell were the light of his life.
Brandon was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 13, 1976. He attended Muir Elementary, Mueller Park Middle School and was a proud Bountiful Brave, graduating in 1995. Brandon faithfully served an honorable mission in the Michigan Detroit Mission. He received his Associate’s Degree from BYU-Idaho and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Service Management from Weber State University. While living in Ogden Brandon met and married Cari Sellers (later divorced).
In 1991 Brandon started his first job helping a local home contractor with project site cleanup. While there, he learned to frame and eventually started running his own framing crew. In college he launched his own residential general contracting company building custom homes. After graduating, Brandon was recruited to move back East to work in the Federal Government Sector where he managed construction projects in secure agency facilities. In 2014, an opportunity with Kier Construction brought him back to Utah to build apartment complexes, hospital and other medical facilities, education buildings, data centers, and various other commercial projects. He made a move to Layton Construction in October 2017 where he was still employed at the time of his passing. Brandon loved being a part of the Layton family and will be greatly missed.
Brandon met Krachel in the summer of 2017 and they were sealed for time and eternity in the Bountiful Temple on May 18, 2018. In the short time Brandon and Krachel were together they lived life to the fullest. They listened to cowboy poetry in Jackson Hole, cheered for their favorite football teams in Denver, watched knights in shining armor joust in Las Vegas, floated the Snake River, boated on Jenny’s Lake under the Tetons, toured Zions National Park and 4-wheeled through the hills above Heber. They visited Old Faithful and returned to the Old Faithful Inn Cafeteria where Brandon grew up dining on summer vacations. Over the summer they went to the 4th of July parade in Kaysville and attended Stadium of Fire. They went to the Days of ‘47 rodeo at State Fair Park and attended the parade in downtown Salt Lake. Brandon and Krachel played with their kids at East Canyon Reservoir and Bear Lake. They toured red rocks in Arches National Park and looked for spooks on the Halloween train at the Heber Valley Railroad. They slid down slides at the Ice Castles, went to the State Fair, the Summit County Demolition Derby and Morgan County Monster Truck show. They attended plays at Hale Center Theater, went to a Real soccer game, sat in a suite at a Jazz game and saw Brandon’s favorite Christmas band, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, in person. One of the highlights of Brandon’s year was seeing Phantom of the Opera at the Eccles Theater. His favorite part of the summer though was taking the kids on weekly trips to Lagoon.
Brandon was a deeply devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served honorably in every calling he received, and shared his testimony whenever he had a chance. While living in Maryland Brandon served as a temple worker in the Washington D.C. Temple.
Brandon leaves behind his wife, Krachel, sons Maverick and Rockwell, step-daughters Alexis and Tenley Greenwood, siblings Mike (Jessica) Murdock, Lani Murdock, Todd (Lisa) Murdock, Jana (Mark) Pendleton, Jodi (Brett) Benson and Kristen Murdock, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Brandon is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Deanna Murdock, and his brother, Ladd Murdock.
