Brent Wayne Thompson peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of July 26, 2024, after a valiant seven month battle with lung cancer.
Brent was born March 4, 1964 in Newport Beach, CA to Everett Wayne Thompson and Laura Porter. He grew up on an apple orchard in Eagle, ID with his sister and three brothers. Brent described his childhood as idyllic with many hours spent enjoying the outdoors and getting into mischief with his siblings. He developed many talents including: playing the trumpet and piano, rebuilding a ski boat, learning to scuba dive and riding the unicycle.
Brent was married to Kimara Lind from December 16, 1988 to July 1998. Together they had four beautiful children. Brent married Dianna Lee Deppe on June 26, 2021. They were a perfect match and hoped for at least 20 years of marriage, but it was not meant to be. Brent said the most important thing in his life is his children. He spent countless hours traveling from Eagle ID to Logan UT to be with them. He felt a deep desire to be their Dad. He worked hard to let them know how proud he was of them and how much he loved them.
Brent loved airplanes. He got his pilot’s license as a teenager. He also became fully qualified as an airplane mechanic by getting his Airframe and Powerplant license at a young age. Brent always dreamed of working in the Aerospace industry. This passion led him to graduate from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Technology. His first job out of college was with Boeing where he helped design the B2 stealth bomber. His dream was to build a Van’s RV 7 airplane when he retired. Brent used all the skills from his degree to further his career. He worked as a lead electrical designer and manufacturing engineer in Boise ID. He “learned the way of the Jedi” working as a supplier quality engineer in the Silicon Valley with Curtis. He also used those skills to start a successful custom door shop with his brothers. He ultimately became a Regulatory/Compliance engineer for Icon Health and Fitness, Campbell Scientific and BioFire/Biomerieux: a career he was very proud of and enjoyed.
Brent has a strong testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He focused on becoming like our Savior by helping those whose hands hung low. He is a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Mississippi Jackson mission. He served in many church callings including: executive secretary, financial clerk, primary teacher, home teacher and organist. Brent had a passion for music. He sang with Craig Jessop’s American Festival Chorus for eight years. He had many spiritual, testimony building experiences while in the choir that he shared with his family around the dinner table.
When Brent received his diagnosis, he comforted his family by reminding them that some of the best memories can be made during the hardest times. During his seven months of chemo and radiation treatments, he spent his time encouraging his family to find the good in this hardship and acknowledge the Lord’s hand in all things. Despite his young age, he knew he was being called home, by a loving Father, to do a great work. He faced his mortality with a peaceful heart and acceptance that has inspired us all.
Brent is survived by his wife Dianna Deppe Thompson. His children: Kierra (Kelly), Marissa, Aurora, Kayden (Mei) and his granddaughter, Kailey. His mother, Laura Porter Thompson, siblings Daylor (Debbie), Curtis (Miriam), Angela and Wendell (Pamela). His cousin: Ja’Nien (Mike). Preceded in death by his father, Everett Wayne Thompson.
Brent’s family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Katie Kerrigan’s team at Huntsman Cancer Institute and to the loving caregivers at Huntsman at Home Hospice.
