Bret Earl Frodsham, born December 7, 1958, passed away from cancer in his home surrounded by family on December 30, 2014. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frank Earl Frodsham and Barbara Swain Frodsham. He was the 2nd of seven children. Growing up in Farmington, Utah, he enjoyed the cowboy life in so many ways. The foothills of Farmington were his backyard.
Bret graduated from Davis High School where he played football, basketball, baseball, and wrestled. His senior year, he led the football team to the 1976 State Championship, and was named to the Utah High School All-State team. Bret shared his deep, musical voice as Harold Hill in the school’s production of The Music Man. Bret served an honorable, full-time, LDS mission in Quebec, Canada, French-speaking. He loved the French language and relished every chance he had to speak it. Even more than that, he loved his Savior, and took every opportunity he had to share his testimony.
He continued his education at Dixie State College and Weber State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1990. He was a two-time Big Sky All-Conference team member at WSU and was then drafted by the Baltimore Colts as a center. Bret successfully owned and operated Frodsham Better Lawns and Trees, serving the community for many years.
He married his sweetheart, Kristi McCloud Frodsham, on March 26, 1988 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of two children – Abby, 22 and Marshall, 19. Elder Marshall Frodsham is currently serving in the Thailand, Bangkok mission.
Bret was known for his physical and spiritual strength that he used to serve all those around him. During his bout with cancer, neighbors wore t-shirts with the letters “BFF.” At the beginning of this journey, it stood for “Bret Frodsham’s Friends.” However, on his 56th birthday, just weeks ago, the letters held a deeper meaning – “Bret Frodsham’s Faith.” Beginning at age 14, he committed to doing 100 push-ups and 100 pull-ups every day. Until his cancer surgery on October 16, 2013, he had never missed a day. His big, strong muscles and dark, long eyelashes will forever remind us of our Superhero.
He is survived by his wife, Kristi; his children, Abby and Marshall; his parents, Frank and Barbara Frodsham; his six siblings: Judy Anderson (Rick), Linda Greenwood (Frank), Suzette Cottrell (Brad), Bruce Frodsham (Heidi), Joseph Frodsham (Bridgette), and Jacob Frodsham (Christianne).
The family would like to thank the Huntsman Cancer Institute and their loving staff, Good Shepherd Home Care and Hospice, and the countless friends and neighbors who have offered their continued love and support during this time.
