Our beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away in his home on March 8, 2025. Brett Michael Error was born to Mike and Linda Error as the oldest of seven children on January 9, 1972, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was curious and a leader from a young age; his little brothers and sister followed him everywhere, often participating in his mischievous ploys.
Brett graduated with high honors from Bountiful High School, where he was a Sterling Scholar. He later served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Slovenia. His fluent Slovene was learned from comic books because it was not a language that was taught in the Missionary Training Center. Brett married Jennifer King in 1995 (later divorced). During his single adult life, any outsider could easily recognize that his highest priority in life was time with his three children – Tempest, Sarah, and Mary Error.
Brett was a sponge for learning and received his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Utah where he put it to good use in the computer and technology industry. He grew into an industry giant – instrumental in the development and growth of the massively successful web-based analytics company, Omniture. His leadership and success enabled him to change lives throughout the world – helping to build a school in Africa, funding a hospital, and anonymously giving to countless individuals. He generously gave to others; however, his largest impact was at home with his family and those closest to him.
Brett was the fun one. His infectious, loud laugh inflated the room. He could always be found at family gatherings, tromping around with a nephew or niece gleefully wrapped around each leg. He possessed the legendary ability to make others feel special. His larger-than-life demeanor was dwarfed by his love for the outdoors, especially the Uinta Mountains. We will miss the campfire stories, the pumpkin carving, the ‘swabby’, the ‘sveetch-a-roo’, the tesla coil, the hikes, the fast cars, the tissue paper magic undies, the trips, the fireworks, the monster-sized tips, the golden boxes, the marshmallow taffy, the bag-foot, the Christmas coats, and his remarkable dedication to play video games at a snail's pace.
Brett is survived by his children Tempest, Sarah, and Mary, his parents Mike & Linda Error, siblings Christopher (Kim), Daniel, Marc (Teana), Jared (Aimee), Braden (Lauren) Error, and Rachel (Paul) Anderton, and 23 nieces and nephews. Brett, you are the heart of our family, and you have left a huge hole, but we know you will be there waiting to introduce us to the other side.
